Time 2h5m

Yield 16 bars

Number Of Ingredients 8

Cooking spray
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 box yellow cake mix for two 9-inch rounds
1 large egg
1 cup apple butter
1/2 cup unsweetened instant or quick-cooking oats
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Confectioners' sugar, for dusting

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9-inch square pan with a piece of aluminum foil (about 17 inches long), leaving a 2-inch overhang on each side. Lightly coat the bottom and sides of the lined pan with cooking spray.
  • Melt half the butter (4 tablespoons) in a medium bowl in the microwave, about 45 seconds. Set aside 1 cup of the cake mix, and add the remaining mix to the melted butter. Add the egg and 1 tablespoon water, and mix with a spatula until well blended. Let stand a few minutes until the mixture is no longer tacky to the touch. Pat the dough in an even layer in the pan. Bake until the edges are lightly set to the touch and the crust is lightly browned all over, about 20 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, melt the remaining butter in a medium bowl in the microwave, about 45 seconds. Add the reserved cake mix, oats and cinnamon, and mix with a fork until crumbly.
  • Spread the apple butter over the cooled crust, spreading it to the edges. Scatter the crumb mixture over the apple butter. Return the pan to the oven and continue to bake until the crumbs are golden brown and firm, about 30 minutes more. Cool completely in the pan.
  • Using the foil overhang, lift the bars out of the pan and peel the foil away from the edges. Dust with confectioners' sugar, and cut into 16 bars.

Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 cups cranberries (fresh or partially defrosted frozen)
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Coarse salt
1/2 cup honey
3 small or 2 large McIntosh apples (about 1 pound), peeled if desired, cored and cut into 1 1/2 inch wedges
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
6 sheets phyllo dough

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375 degrees. In an 8-by-8-inch baking dish, toss cranberries with cornstarch, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Drizzle with 1/4 cup honey. Arrange apples on top of cranberries in one layer, skin sides down. Drizzle with 3 tablespoons honey. Sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  • Melt together butter, remaining honey, and remaining 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon. Working with one sheet of phyllo at a time and keeping the others covered with plastic wrap, brush very lightly with butter mixture. Lay a second sheet over first and brush with butter mixture. Repeat with one more sheet. Tear the phyllo crosswise into 4 pieces, and loosely crumple (as youwould a tissue) as you place on top of the apples. Repeat with remaining three sheets of phyllo and butter mixture.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, then reduce to 350 degrees. Bake until juices bubble in center and apples are tender, 40 to 50 minutes more. If top darkens too quickly, tent with foil. Cool 30 minutes.

NATURAL APPLE CINNAMON OATS DOGGY TREATS

Natural Apple Cinnamon Oats Doggy Treats image

Here's an easy, safe, natural and healthy treat that dogs drool over! Makes their breath smelling fresh too-- what more can a pawrent ask for? I found this recipe somewhere on the web and altered it a bit to make it more natural and healthier for our furry friends. The original recipe called for 5 cups of flour and regular powdered milk. I instead used non-fat powdered milk and used just 2 3/4 Unbleached flour and 2 1/2 cups oat flour. You can make your own oat flour by grinding oatmeal using a food processor or even a coffee grinder would do. I or should I say, my dog Coco gave them as gifts to her doggy friends this Christmas. They were well received and consumed in no time... by the dogs and their humans too! We have lots of doggy friends and this recipe yields a lot so this was VERY economical.

  • Let it cool and serve with TLC.

Tips:

  • Prep your ingredients beforehand: Chop nuts, measure spices, and soften butter before you start mixing. This will make the baking process much smoother.
  • Use fresh, flavorful apples: Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples are both great choices for this recipe. Make sure they're crisp and not too bruised.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing can result in tough, chewy cookies. Mix just until the ingredients are well combined.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes: This will help the cookies hold their shape better when baking.
  • Bake the cookies until the edges are golden brown: The centers should still be slightly soft and gooey.

Conclusion:

Apple Cinnamon Crunch Treats are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. With their sweet and cinnamony flavor, they're sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy dessert, give these cookies a try. You won't be disappointed!
