Once the oil is heated and the dough has rested, portion out the dough to 3-ounce portions and fry until golden brown, flipping once during cooking to ensure even cooking. Once cooked for 5 minutes, remove and place on a plate with a paper towel covering. Repeat the process, and then finish with the glaze and dust with powdered sugar.

- Use fresh, ripe apples for the best flavor. Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples are good choices.
- Peel and core the apples before grating them. This will help to prevent the scones from becoming too dense.
- Do not overmix the dough. Overmixing will result in tough scones.
- Use a floured pastry blender or your fingers to work the butter into the flour mixture. This will help to create a flaky texture.
- Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will help to prevent the scones from spreading too much in the oven.
- Bake the scones until they are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
