This is so easy to put together. Great for a Sunday morning family breakfast. But since we're empty-nesters, I bake it on Sunday and we eat it all week for breakfast. Just scoop out a serving and heat it in the microwave with a little extra milk!

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 9

2-3 medium apples, chopped (2 cups)
1/2 c raisins
2 Tbsp butter
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
1/3 c packed brown sugar
2 2/3 c old-fashioned oats
4 c mlk
1/4 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add apples, raisins, sugar, cinnamon and salt; saute until apples are slightly soft. In 2-quart casserole, combine oats and milk. Stir in apple mixture. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes, until most of the milk is absorbed. If using a flat casserole, it only takes about 30 minutes. If using a round casserole, bake about 40 minutes.
  • 2. Serve with additional milk if desired. Also good with some chopped walnuts sprinkled on top.

Tips:

  • Use ripe apples: This will give your casserole a sweeter, more flavorful taste.
  • Don't overcook the oats: You want them to be tender but still have a little bite to them.
  • Add your favorite spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are all classic choices that pair well with apples.
  • Top with a crunchy topping: This could be anything from nuts to granola to streusel.
  • Serve warm or cold: Apple oatmeal casserole is delicious either way.

Conclusion:

Apple oatmeal casserole is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like it sweet or savory, there's an apple oatmeal casserole recipe out there for you. So next time you're looking for a comforting and nutritious meal, give this classic casserole a try.
