Tips:

  • Choose the right sweet potatoes. Look for firm, unblemished sweet potatoes that are about the same size so they cook evenly.
  • Pierce the sweet potatoes before baking. This helps them cook more evenly and prevents them from bursting.
  • Use a variety of apples. Different types of apples will give your bake a different flavor and texture. For a tart and tangy flavor, use Granny Smith apples. For a sweeter flavor, use Honeycrisp or Fuji apples.
  • Add some spices. Spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger will enhance the flavor of the apples and sweet potatoes.
  • Don't overcook the bake. The sweet potatoes should be tender but still hold their shape. The apples should be soft but not mushy.
  • Serve the bake warm or at room temperature. It's delicious on its own or with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream.
  • Make it ahead of time. This bake can be made up to 2 days ahead of time. Just reheat it in the oven before serving.
