THE BEST BROWNED BEEF STEW EVER

The Best Browned Beef Stew Ever image

I originally found this recipe at Recipe Goldmine but have added and subtracted after trial and error. The original recipe called for a 10 oz pkg of frozen peas to be added during the last 15 minutes of cooking. I usually add a little rosemary and cayenne. Can add the spices you wish. This is very good!

Tips:

  • Tenderize your beef: Marinate it in a mixture of Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, garlic, and olive oil for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This will help break down the tough fibers and make the beef more tender.
  • Sear the beef before stewing: This will create a flavorful crust on the outside of the beef and help keep it moist on the inside. Sear the beef in a hot skillet over medium-high heat for a few minutes per side, until it is browned.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: The more vegetables you add to your beef stew, the more flavorful it will be. Some good options include carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, and mushrooms.
  • Add some herbs and spices: Herbs and spices can really elevate the flavor of your beef stew. Some good options include thyme, rosemary, oregano, basil, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Simmer the stew for at least 1 hour: This will allow the flavors to meld and the beef to become tender. Simmer the stew over low heat for at least 1 hour, or until the beef is fall-apart tender.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or rice: Beef stew is traditionally served with mashed potatoes or rice. These sides help to soak up the delicious gravy.
