Hot Fudge Sauce II image

This is a great hot fudge sauce to use for almost any chocolate dessert. My mom gave me this recipe with a note that said, 'Use this sauce over brownies and vanilla ice cream to make 'Eskimo Pie Delight'. It was a favorite of mine from college.

Time 20m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup white sugar
⅛ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup heavy cream
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Place chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and cook on high 1 to 2 minutes, stirring frequently, until mostly melted. Transfer to a heavy-bottomed saucepan over low heat and stir in sugar, salt and butter. Stir in cream, a little at a time until smooth. Heat through, without boiling, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Store in refrigerator.

Tips:

  • To make a smooth and lump-free sauce, whisk the cornstarch and water together in a small bowl until smooth before adding it to the saucepan.
  • If you don't have a double boiler, you can create one by placing a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water.
  • To achieve the desired sweetness, adjust the amount of sugar in the recipe. Use less sugar for a darker, more intense chocolate flavor and more sugar for a sweeter sauce.
  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality unsweetened chocolate. Look for chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • Garnish the sauce with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or a sprinkle of cocoa powder for an extra touch of decadence.

Conclusion:

This delectable unsweetened chocolate sauce is an easy and versatile recipe that elevates numerous desserts and beverages. Its rich, deep flavor and smooth texture make it an ideal accompaniment to cakes, brownies, ice cream, waffles, pancakes, and more. With just a few simple ingredients and minimal effort, this homemade sauce offers endless possibilities for culinary creativity.
