10-MINUTE HONEY BARBECUE GRILLED SHRIMP

10-Minute Honey Barbecue Grilled Shrimp image

Fast, EASY, healthy, and the perfect way to enjoy barbecue shrimp!! Tender, juicy, and full of such great FLAVOR from the barbecue sauce and honey

Provided by Averie Sunshine

Categories     Seafood

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/3 cup your favorite barbecue sauce
1/3 cup honey
2 to 4 cloves garlic, finely minced or pressed
1 to 3 tablespoons sriracha or chili garlic sauce, optional and to taste if you prefer some spiciness
1 to 1.25 pounds fresh shrimp, cleaned and deveined (I use U20 shrimp, with tails still on; you can use larger shrimp or shrimp without tails on if desired)
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt and freshly ground black pepper, for seasoning
fresh lemon wedges, for serving
fresh cilantro or parsley, optional for garnishing

Steps:

  • To a medium bowl, add the barbecue sauce, honey, garlic, optional sriracha or chili garlic sauce, and stir to combine. Divide mixture into two bowls (one for brushing on the shrimp while grilling and the other as a dipping sauce when serving); set bowls aside.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat (or indoor grill pan).
  • Thread about 5 to 6 shrimp onto one metal or wooden grilling skewer (soak wooden skewers in water for about 30 minutes prior to using); repeat the threading with all remaining shrimp.
  • Brush shrimp liberally with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • Grill the shrimp for about 2 minutes on the first side.
  • Flip and brush the just-grilled side with the barbecue sauce mixture from one of the bowls.
  • Grill for about 2 minutes on the second side, and brush the first side with the barbecue sauce mixture. As necessary, continue to brush the shrimp with the sauce and flip every 30 to 60 seconds or until done. Note - Shrimp cook very quickly, especially on a hot grill. Keep an eye on them and do not overcook or they will become tough and rubbery. There is a difference between a little charring on the tails from the grill versus overcooking them.
  • Drizzle with lemon juice, optionally garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley, and serve immediately with the reserved dipping sauce. Shrimp are best warm and fresh.

BARBECUED SHRIMP

This is great shrimp, messy, but good! Stir the sauce frequently while serving, since it separates easily. We eat this by peeling the shrimps at the table and stirring them into the sauce and don't forget the French bread, it's great dipped into the sauce. This recipe just serves two, if you want to serve it to more than that, it's suggested you do so in separate batches. Recipe is from Chef Paul Prudhomme's Louisiana Kitchen.

Time 25m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 dozen large shrimp, with shells
1 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary leaves, crushed
1/8 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/4 lb butter, plus
5 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup shrimp stock or 1/2 cup seafood stock (see my recipe for seafood stock or use your own)
1/4 cup beer, at room temperature

Steps:

  • Rinse the shrimp in cold water and drain well, set aside.
  • In a small bowl combine the seasoning mix ingredients (red pepper through oregano leaves).
  • Combine 1 stick of the butter, the garlic, Worcestershire and seasoning mix in a large skillet over high heat.
  • When the butter is melted, add the shrimp; cook for 2 minutes, shaking the pan (versus stirring) in a back-and-forth motion.
  • Add the remaining 5 tablespoons butter and the stock; cook and shake pan for 2 minutes.
  • Add the beer and cook and shake the pan 1 minute longer and remove from heat.
  • Serve immediately in bowls with lots of French bread on the side, or on a platter with cooked rice mounded in the middle and the shrimp and sauce surrounding it.

Tips:

  • Choose the right shrimp. Look for large, firm shrimp with a translucent appearance. Avoid shrimp that is brown or has black spots.
  • Prepare the shrimp properly. Peel and devein the shrimp, leaving the tails intact. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  • Marinate the shrimp. Marinating the shrimp in a flavorful mixture of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and herbs will help to tenderize and flavor the shrimp.
  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. This will help to prevent the shrimp from sticking to the grill and will also help to cook the shrimp evenly.
  • Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are opaque and cooked through. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp, as this will make them tough and chewy.
  • Serve the shrimp immediately. Grilled shrimp can be served with a variety of sides, such as rice, pasta, or vegetables.

Conclusion:

Grilled shrimp is a delicious and healthy seafood option that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With its simple preparation and quick cooking time, grilled shrimp is a great choice for busy weeknight meals or special occasions. By following these tips, you can easily grill shrimp that is perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor.
