BEA'S FISH COATING FOR DEEP FRYING FISH

Bea's Fish Coating for Deep Frying Fish image

This is another coating I like to use for fish fries. I use this with Pickerel or Bass but I'm sure it works well on other types of fish. It is tasty and not too heavy allowing the flavor of the fish to come through nicely. I just guessed at the amount of servings as I have never counted how many pieces it coats and I have not added cooking time as that depends on the size of the fish piece being cooked.

Tips:

  • Choose the right fish: Not all fish are suitable for deep-frying. Some fish, such as salmon and trout, are too delicate and will fall apart during the frying process. Choose a firm-fleshed fish that will hold together well, such as tilapia, cod, or catfish.
  • Prepare the fish properly: Before coating the fish in batter or bread crumbs, make sure to rinse it thoroughly and pat it dry with paper towels. This will help the coating adhere to the fish and prevent it from becoming soggy.
  • Use a light touch when coating the fish: Don't press the coating into the fish too hard, or it will become tough. Just gently press the coating onto the fish so that it sticks.
  • Use a high-quality oil for frying: The type of oil you use for frying will affect the flavor and texture of the fish. Choose a high-quality oil that has a high smoke point, such as canola oil, vegetable oil, or peanut oil.
  • Fry the fish at the right temperature: The ideal temperature for frying fish is between 350 and 375 degrees Fahrenheit. If the oil is too hot, the fish will cook too quickly and the coating will burn. If the oil is too cold, the fish will absorb too much oil and become greasy.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When frying fish, don't overcrowd the pan. This will cause the oil temperature to drop and the fish will not cook evenly.
  • Drain the fish on paper towels: After frying the fish, drain it on paper towels to remove any excess oil.

Conclusion:

Deep-fried fish is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways. By following these tips, you can create perfectly fried fish that is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Serve your fried fish with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce, ketchup, or malt vinegar, and enjoy!
