Categories     Pork     Bake

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 15 pound precooked ham with bone
1 pound dark brown sugar
4 12 ounce cans of beer
1/4 c honey
1/4 c Dijon mustard
2 c packed brown sugar
2 c Bourbon (Jim Beam)

Steps:

  • Place ham in deep roasting pan. Firmly pat 1 pound brown sugar on all sides of ham. Pour beer around ham. Cover and bake at 325 degrees for 3 3/4 hours (15 minutes per pound). One hour before end of baking time, pour off all but about 1 1/2 inches of beer. In small sauce pan, combine honey, mustard, 2 cups brown sugar, and bourbon. Heat until sugar melts. Baste ham every 10 minutes with beer mixture from bottom of pan and then the boubon glaze. Use all the bourbon glaze before removing ham from oven. Slice thinly and serve with sauce remaining in pan.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Ham: Opt for a bone-in ham for better flavor and texture. A 10-12 pound ham serves 10-12 people.
  • Score the Ham: Use a sharp knife to score the fat cap into a diamond pattern. This helps the glaze penetrate and crisp up the skin.
  • Make the Glaze: Combine brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, spices, and beer in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Glaze the Ham: Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Place the ham in a roasting pan and pour the glaze over it. Cover and bake for 2 hours.
  • Baste the Ham: Uncover the ham and baste it with the glaze every 20 minutes for the last hour of baking.
  • Let the Ham Rest: Once the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140°F (60°C), remove it from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before carving.

Conclusion:

Beer-glazed ham is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served for a variety of occasions. Whether you're hosting a holiday dinner or just looking for a tasty weeknight meal, this recipe is sure to please everyone at the table. With its sweet and savory glaze, tender meat, and crispy skin, beer-glazed ham is a classic dish that everyone will love.
