Categories     beverage

Time 5m

Yield 1 cocktail

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 ounces gin, such as Old Tom Gin
2 ounces half-and-half
1 ounce simple syrup
3 small dashes orange flower water
2 drops vanilla extract, optional
1 egg white
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Juice of 1/2 lime
Ice
3 ounces seltzer water

Steps:

  • Cook's Note: Orange flower water is available at better liquor stores and Middle Eastern markets. Be very careful when adding this to your cocktail as it can easily overwhelm the flavors in this delicious drink.
  • Add the gin, half-and-half, simple syrup, orange flower water, vanilla if using, egg white and lemon and lime juices in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for 3 minutes, or blend with an immersion blender until frothy, about 20 seconds. Pour into an ice-filled highball glass, and top with the seltzer water.
  • Food Network Kitchens suggest caution in consuming raw and lightly-cooked eggs due to the risk of Salmonella or other food-borne illness. To reduce this risk, we recommend you use only fresh, properly-refrigerated, clean, grade A or AA eggs with intact shells, and avoid contact between the yolks or whites and the shell. For recipes that call for eggs that are raw or undercooked when the dish is served use shell eggs that have been treated to destroy Salmonella, by pasteurization or another approved method.

FROZEN GIN FIZZ RECIPE

Provided by stancec44

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup ice cubes
3 ounces gin (make it a good one)
Juice of 1/2 lemon or lime
1 1/2 teaspoons confectioners' sugar (it'll dissolve more quickly than granulated or superfine sugar)
Soda water (or, if you have a sweet tooth, lemon-lime flavored soda or seltzer)
A slice or twist of lemon or lime

Steps:

  • 1. Toss the ice in the blender. Add the gin, lemon or lime juice, and sugar and blend until smooooooth. (You may need to pulse it several times at the beginning until the ice is properly chopped. And then let the motor whir even if the blender begins to hop a little.) 2. Pour the boozy concoction into a glass. Top with a splash of soda water (or, for a sweeter twist, some lemon-lime soda). Garnish with the lemon or lime. NOTE: Caution: These frozen gin fizzes are deadly. They go down easily. And they are strong. Not a good combination, unless you plan to get sloshed, which on this particular Friday, I did. This recipe is a godsend if you like your drinks strong and dry, as I do, because while on a hot summer day a frozen drink sounds like just the ticket, they are all way too sweet, no? Not this one. As long as you go with the soda water over the sweet soda, you will have an honest-to-God adult drink. The amount of sugar is just enough to balance the lemon, but neither flavor overpowers the gin, which is a good thing if-like me-you like gin. Here you get the wonderful herbal flavors of your gin set off with a hint of lemon and cooled down to an icy slush suitable for the hottest day. A grown-up Slurpee. And it makes me very, very happy. Did I mention they were strong? [Editor's Note: We heard from Melissa again a little later in the day, when she emailed us to say, "Man, oh man, I was rushing to get the review typed before the full effect kicked in...." Our kinda drink.]

Tips:

  • Choose fresh citrus fruits: The fresher the citrus fruits, the better the flavor of your gin fizz will be. Look for fruits that are heavy for their size and have a bright, vibrant color.
  • Use a good quality gin: Gin is the main ingredient in this cocktail, so it's important to use a good one. Look for a gin that is smooth and flavorful, with a juniper-forward flavor.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different citrus fruits: You can use any type of citrus fruit in this recipe, so feel free to experiment with different combinations to find your favorite. Some popular options include oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes.
  • Make sure your sparkling water is chilled: Chilled sparkling water will help to keep your gin fizz refreshing and bubbly.
  • Garnish your gin fizz with a citrus wedge or twist: This will add a pop of color and flavor to your cocktail.

Conclusion:

The Blended Citrus Gin Fizz is a refreshing and flavorful cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be customized to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a delicious and refreshing cocktail, give the Blended Citrus Gin Fizz a try!
