Tips:

  • Fresh blueberries: For the best flavor, use fresh blueberries. If you don't have fresh blueberries, you can use frozen blueberries, but be sure to thaw them before using.
  • Lemon juice: A little bit of lemon juice helps to balance the sweetness of the blueberries and gives the topping a bit of tang.
  • Sugar: You can adjust the amount of sugar to your liking. If you like your topping sweeter, add more sugar. If you like it less sweet, add less sugar.
  • Cornstarch: Cornstarch helps to thicken the topping and give it a glossy sheen. If you don't have cornstarch, you can use flour instead, but be sure to whisk it into the sugar before adding it to the blueberries.
  • Butter: Butter adds a rich flavor to the topping. If you don't have butter, you can use margarine or oil instead, but the flavor will not be as rich.
