Tips for Making the Best Breaded Green Beans

  • Choose fresh, tender green beans. Avoid beans that are limp or have brown spots.
  • Trim the ends of the green beans. You can also cut them into smaller pieces if desired.
  • Blanch the green beans. This will help them retain their color and crispness. To blanch the green beans, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until they are bright green. Drain the green beans and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Make the breading. You can use a variety of different breading recipes. Some popular options include:
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup cornmeal, 1/2 cup bread crumbs, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon salt.
    • 1 cup panko bread crumbs, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup chopped fresh herbs (such as parsley, basil, or oregano), and 1 teaspoon garlic powder.
    • 1 cup crushed cornflakes, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup chopped nuts (such as almonds or walnuts), and 1 teaspoon garlic powder.
  • Dredge the green beans in the breading. Make sure the green beans are evenly coated.
  • Fry the green beans. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the green beans. Fry the green beans for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  • Drain the green beans on paper towels. This will help remove any excess oil.

Conclusion

Breaded green beans are a delicious and versatile side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for potlucks, picnics, and other casual gatherings.
