2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, 2 turns of the pan
1 pound chicken breast tenders, chopped
Salt and pepper
1 small onion, chopped
1 pound macaroni elbows or cavatapi corkscrew shaped pasta twists
2 1/2 cups raw broccoli florets, available packaged in produce department
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
3 cups whole milk
1 cup chicken stock
3 cups yellow sharp Cheddar
1 tablespoon prepared Dijon mustard

Steps:

  • Place a pot of water on to boil for macaroni.
  • Heat a medium pan over medium to medium high heat. Add extra-virgin olive oil and chicken and season with salt and pepper. Saute a couple of minutes then add onion and cook another 5 to 7 minutes until onions are tender and chicken is cooked through. Turn off heat and reserve.
  • To boiling pasta water, add pasta and salt to season the cooking water. Cook 5 minutes, then add broccoli and cook 3 minutes more or until pasta is cooked to al dente and florets are just tender.
  • While pasta cooks, heat a medium sauce pot over medium heat. Add butter and melt, then add flour, cayenne and paprika and whisk together over heat until roux bubbles then cook a minute more. Whisk in milk and stock and raise heat a little to bring sauce to a quick boil. Simmer sauce to thicken about 5 minutes.

BROCCOLI AND CHEDDAR CHEESE CHICKEN WRAP RECIPE - (4.6/5)

Broccoli and Cheddar Cheese Chicken Wrap Recipe - (4.6/5) image

Provided by รก-24447

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cans Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls (I used pizza dough)
2 cups chicken chunks, cooked
2 cups cheddar cheese
2 cups broccoli, frozen, steamed and chopped
1/2 cup ranch

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F 2. On a parchment paper lined cookie sheet, spread both cans of crescents length wise to form a long rectangle. 3. Press each of the seams to form a single layer of dough. 4. In a large bowl, combine chicken, cheese, broccoli and ranch 5. Spread mixture over the center of the croissant dough evenly to create a log. 6.Using a sharp knife, cut horizontal strips 1 inch apart down each side of the crescent dough. 7.Fold the dough strips over the top of the chicken mixture, alternating left and right to create a braid. 8.Bake for 28 - 30 minutes until golden brown.

Tips:

  • Select the right broccoli: Choose broccoli crowns that are dark green and tightly closed. Avoid crowns with yellow or wilted florets.
  • Prepare the broccoli properly: Cut the broccoli into 1-inch florets and steam or boil them until tender-crisp. Do not overcook the broccoli, as it will become mushy.
  • Use a good quality cheddar cheese: The type of cheddar cheese you use will greatly affect the flavor of the dish. Choose a sharp or extra-sharp cheddar cheese for a bolder flavor.
  • Make a roux: A roux is a mixture of butter and flour that is used to thicken the sauce. It is important to cook the roux until it is golden brown, as this will help to develop its flavor.
  • Simmer the sauce: Once you have added the milk to the roux, bring the mixture to a simmer and cook it for at least 5 minutes. This will help to thicken the sauce and allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Add the broccoli and cheese: Once the sauce has thickened, add the broccoli and cheddar cheese. Stir until the cheese has melted and the broccoli is evenly coated.
  • Season to taste: Taste the sauce and add salt and pepper as needed. You can also add other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Serve immediately: Broccoli and cheddar cheese is best served hot. It can be served over rice, pasta, or vegetables.

Conclusion:

Broccoli and cheddar cheese is a classic comfort food dish that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. With its creamy, cheesy sauce and tender-crisp broccoli, it is a perfect meal for a weeknight dinner or a casual gathering. Whether you are looking for a simple side dish or a hearty main course, broccoli and cheddar cheese is sure to please everyone at the table.
