Categories     dessert

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, plus extra for buttering the dish
4 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup good cocoa powder
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
Seeds scraped from 1 vanilla bean
1 tablespoon framboise liqueur, optional
Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Lightly butter a 2-quart (9 by 12 by 2-inch) oval baking dish. Melt the 1/2 pound of butter and set aside to cool.
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the eggs and sugar on medium-high speed for 5 to 10 minutes, until very thick and light yellow. Meanwhile, sift the cocoa powder and flour together and set aside.
  • When the egg and sugar mixture is ready, reduce the speed to low and add the vanilla seeds, framboise, if using, and the cocoa powder and flour mixture. Mix only until combined. With mixer still on low, slowly pour in the cooled butter and mix again just until combined.
  • Pour the brownie mixture into the prepared dish and place it in a larger baking pan. The inside will appear VERY underbaked - it is supposed to be that way, so don't keep on baking it! The number of servings are as noted in the cookbook, though I think it could serve far more.

BROWNIE PUDDING-INA GARTEN

Brownie Pudding-Ina Garten image

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 pound unsalted butter, plus extra for buttering the dish
4 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup good cocoa powder
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 Seeds scraped from 1 vanilla bean
1 tablespoon framboise liqueur, optional

Add enough of the hottest tap water to the pan to come halfway up the side of the dish and bake for exactly 1 hour. A cake tester inserted 2 inches from the side will come out 3/4 clean. The center will appear very under-baked; this dessert is between a brownie and a pudding.

Tips:

  • Choosing the Right Brownie Mix: Opt for a high-quality brownie mix that yields fudgy, moist brownies. Check the package instructions for the recommended pan size to ensure the perfect consistency.
  • Preparing the Brownie Mix: Follow the brownie mix package instructions carefully. Use room-temperature ingredients for even mixing and consistent results. Don't overmix the batter, as this can result in a tough texture.
  • Mixing in the Pudding: For a rich, decadent flavor, use a chocolate or vanilla instant pudding mix. Gradually blend it into the prepared brownie batter until well combined. This step adds an extra layer of moistness and creaminess to the brownies.
  • Baking the Brownies: Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake according to the brownie mix package instructions. Keep an eye on the brownies during baking to prevent overcooking. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Cooling and Serving: Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting and serving. This helps them set properly and prevents them from crumbling. For a delightful presentation, dust the brownies with powdered sugar or top with whipped cream, ice cream, or fresh berries.

Conclusion:

Indulge in the ultimate comfort dessert with these irresistible brownie pudding recipes. By combining the classic flavors of fudgy brownies and creamy pudding, these treats offer a rich, decadent experience that satisfies every sweet tooth. Whether you prefer a classic chocolate-chocolate combination or a swirl of vanilla pudding for a delightful contrast, these recipes provide a delightful twist on the traditional brownie. Remember to follow the tips for perfect results, and don't forget to savor every bite of these heavenly creations!
