BUBBLE GUM

Bubble Gum image

This is one recipe I have not tried yet,I have future plans to make this with my Grandkids, but just have not had the opportunity yet. It came from a church youth group cookbook. I will only be guesstimating on the time and the amounts. UPDATE: I had a comment from a reader of this recipe, she wanted to know where she could buy "CHICKLE" I had never made this recipe, so I did not know. Since I really did want to make this recipe with my grandkids, I decided now was a good time to get the ingredient chickle for this recipe, so I went to ALL of the BIG grocery chains around southern Illinois, but they mostly didn't have a clue what it was or where I could get it. So my next step was to go online. The gum people I finally connected with and got an answer from says they cannot order this product because they have no call for it and would have to order large quantities of it and would not be able to get rid of it. They did say that there are some toy stores that have bubble gum making kits such as TOYS-R-US, and some of the other big toy stores. So, if you want to make gum with the grandkids, I guess you will have to visit the toy store because the ingredient "CHICKLE" is no longer available in the supermarkets. I am sincere!

STRANGER THINGS STRAWBERRY BUBBLE GUM

Stranger Things Strawberry Bubble Gum image

Give your Valentine a taste of Dustin's must have snack: bubble gum. Printable candy carton templates can be found at: http://www.food.com/article/stranger-things-valentines-day-306

Provided by ChristineMcConnell

Categories     Dessert

Time 31m

Yield 30 bubble gum pieces

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 teaspoons Kool-Aid, powder
1 tablespoon corn syrup
3 tablespoons xanthan gum, can be ordered online (gum base)
3/4 cup icing sugar
use Stranger Things Candy Carton Assembly to gift your chewing gum

Steps:

  • In a large microwave-safe bowl, add gum base, Kool-Aid and corn syrup. Microwave for 30 seconds and mix. Microwave an additional 30 seconds and mix again.
  • Create a pile of sugar on a non-stick surface and funnel out the center with your hand. Pour in the (very hot) gum mixture and begin to mix in sugar as it cools. Mix and twist your gum over and over until most of the sugar is incorporated. The longer you do this the chewier your gum will be. Roll out in 1/2-inch thickness and using a pizza or pastry cutter, cut into desired shape. Lightly toss in a bit of icing sugar before placing in your Valentine candy carton (recipe #530168).

Tips:

  • Choose the right gum base: The gum base is the foundation of your bubble gum, and it will determine the gum's texture and chewiness. There are two main types of gum bases: natural and synthetic. Natural gum bases are made from tree sap, while synthetic gum bases are made from petroleum-based ingredients. Natural gum bases are more expensive, but they produce a softer, chewier gum. Synthetic gum bases are less expensive, but they can produce a harder, less chewy gum.
  • Use the right amount of sugar: The amount of sugar you use will determine the sweetness of your bubble gum. If you use too much sugar, the gum will be too sweet and sticky. If you use too little sugar, the gum will be too bland. A good starting point is to use 1 cup of sugar for every 1 pound of gum base.
  • Add flavoring: You can add any flavoring you like to your bubble gum. Some popular flavors include fruit flavors, mint flavors, and spice flavors. You can use natural flavorings, such as fruit extracts or essential oils, or you can use artificial flavorings.
  • Cook the gum properly: The cooking process is critical for making bubble gum. If you don't cook the gum long enough, it will be too soft and sticky. If you cook the gum too long, it will be too hard and brittle. Cook the gum over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches the desired consistency.
  • Let the gum cool completely: Once the gum is cooked, let it cool completely before you try to chew it. If you try to chew the gum while it's still hot, it will be too soft and sticky.

Conclusion:

Making bubble gum at home is a fun and easy project that you can do with your kids. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create delicious, chewy bubble gum that the whole family will enjoy. So what are you waiting for? Get started today!
