Tips:

  • Choose the right cake mix. Any cake mix can be used to make cake mix truffles, but some flavors work better than others. Chocolate cake mix is a classic choice, but you can also try vanilla, red velvet, or even funfetti cake mix. If you want to make boozy truffles, you can add a splash of your favorite liqueur to the ganache.
  • Make sure the cake mix is fresh. Old cake mix can be lumpy and dry, which will affect the texture of the truffles. Make sure to check the expiration date on the box before you buy it.
  • Prepare the cake mix according to the package directions. This will typically involve adding water, eggs, and oil to the mix and then baking it in a cake pan. Once the cake is baked, let it cool completely before you crumble it into a bowl.
  • Make the ganache. Ganache is a mixture of chocolate and cream that is used to coat the cake balls. To make ganache, simply heat up some cream until it is just simmering and then pour it over some chopped chocolate. Stir until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
  • Combine the cake crumbs and ganache. Once the ganache is made, add it to the bowl of cake crumbs and mix until the mixture is well combined. The mixture should be moist and slightly sticky.
  • Shape the truffles. Use a small spoon or your hands to shape the mixture into 1-inch balls. Place the truffles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Chill the truffles. Place the baking sheet of truffles in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or until the truffles are firm.
  • Coat the truffles. Once the truffles are chilled, you can coat them in a variety of toppings, such as melted chocolate, sprinkles, or chopped nuts.
  • Serve the truffles. Cake mix truffles can be served immediately or stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Cake mix truffles are a delicious and easy treat that can be made with just a few simple ingredients. They are perfect for parties, potlucks, or as a special dessert. With a little creativity, you can create a variety of different flavors and toppings to make your cake mix truffles unique.
