Tips:

  • Use dried beans for the best flavor and texture. If using canned beans, rinse and drain them thoroughly before using.
  • Soak the beans overnight in cold water before cooking. This will help to reduce the cooking time and make the beans more digestible.
  • Use a variety of beans for a more complex flavor and texture. Some good options include pinto beans, black beans, kidney beans, and navy beans.
  • Add some aromatics to the pot, such as onion, garlic, and celery. These will help to enhance the flavor of the beans.
  • Use a good quality smoked sausage or ham hock for a smoky flavor. If you don't have smoked sausage or ham hock, you can add a tablespoon of liquid smoke to the pot.
  • Season the beans well with salt and pepper. You can also add other spices, such as chili powder, cumin, and paprika.
  • Cook the beans over low heat for several hours, or until they are tender. The longer you cook the beans, the more flavorful they will be.
  • Serve the beans with a side of cornbread or rice.

Conclusion:

Campfire baked beans are a classic dish that is perfect for any outdoor gathering. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. So next time you're planning a camping trip, be sure to add campfire baked beans to your menu.
