Tips:

  • Choose the right onions: Yellow onions are the most common type used for campfire onions, but you can also use white or red onions. Smaller onions cook more evenly and quickly than larger ones.
  • Prepare the onions properly: Peel the onions and cut off the root end. Slice the onions into 1/2-inch thick rounds or wedges.
  • Season the onions: Before cooking, season the onions with salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings. This will help to enhance their flavor.
  • Cook the onions over a medium heat: Cooking the onions over a medium heat will help to prevent them from burning. If the heat is too high, the onions will cook too quickly and become mushy.
  • Stir the onions occasionally: Stirring the onions occasionally will help to ensure that they cook evenly. It will also help to prevent them from sticking to the pan or foil.
  • Cook the onions until they are tender: The onions are done cooking when they are tender and have a slightly caramelized appearance. The cooking time will vary depending on the size of the onions and the heat of the fire.

Conclusion:

Campfire onions are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any camping trip. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can enjoy this classic campfire treat. So next time you're camping, be sure to give campfire onions a try!
