Adapted from fried Caribbean accras, which are made from salted cod. A recipe that my dad used to make on the occasional Sunday. I didn't have salted cod, so I substituted canned sockeye salmon and it turned out awesome.

Tips for Frying Fish Caribbean Style:

  • Choose the right fish: Firm-fleshed fish like tilapia, snapper, or cod work best for frying. Avoid delicate fish like sole or flounder, as they tend to fall apart during frying.
  • Use a flavorful marinade: Marinating the fish in a mixture of spices, herbs, and citrus juices will help to infuse it with flavor before frying.
  • Coat the fish in a crispy coating: A coating of flour, cornmeal, or breadcrumbs will help to create a crispy crust on the fish.
  • Fry the fish in hot oil: Use a deep fryer or a large saucepan filled with oil heated to 375°F (190°C). Frying the fish at a high temperature will help to create a crispy crust and prevent the fish from becoming greasy.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: Frying too much fish at once will lower the temperature of the oil and make the fish soggy. Fry the fish in batches if necessary.
  • Cook the fish until it is golden brown: The fish is done cooking when it is golden brown and flakes easily with a fork. Be careful not to overcook the fish, as it will become dry and tough.
  • Serve the fish with your favorite sides: Caribbean-style fried fish is often served with rice, beans, plantains, or fried potatoes.

Conclusion:

Frying fish Caribbean style is a delicious and easy way to enjoy this versatile seafood. By following these tips, you can create a crispy, flavorful fish fry that your family and friends will love. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give Caribbean-style fried fish a try.
