3/4 cup whole-milk plain yogurt

1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
2/3 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup egg substitute
1/2 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine buttermilk and egg substitute; stir into flour mixture just until moistened. Stir in cheese., Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 8-10 times. Pat to 3/4-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter. , Place 1 in. apart on an ungreased baking sheet. 1/4 cup chilled vegetable shortening, cut into pieces
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup chopped fresh chives or green onions
3 tablespoons (packed) chopped fresh dill or 1 tablespoon dried dillweed
2 1/2 cups lightly packed grated extra-sharp cheddar cheese (about 8 ounces)

Steps:

  • Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 450°F. Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, mustard and salt in large bowel to blend. Add butter and shortening; rub with fingertips until mixture resembles coarse meal. Whisk milk, chives, and dill in medium bowl. Pour into dry ingredients; stir until moist dough forms.
