1/2 cup sliced hot cherry peppers
12 store-bought spicy Italian meatballs (from the meat counter)
1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
One 8-ounce log fresh mozzarella, cut into 12 slices
8 to 12 fresh basil leaves, torn
Crusty bread, salad leaves and Italian salad dressing, for serving

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.

1/3 cup apple juice
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup steak sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 1/2 cups chopped onions

Juice of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup beef stock, optional
1 cup sweet red wine, ruby port or Concord grape juice
1 pound fresh cherries, pitted
Boiled white rice or flatbread (pita) for serving
2 scallions, trimmed and chopped

Steps:

  • Combine beef, pine nuts and 1/2 teaspoon allspice. Season with salt. Form into balls or 2-inch long ovals about an inch thick. You should be able to make 12 to 16.
