Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
3 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
6 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 pastry shells, baked (9-inch)
1/4 cup chopped walnuts

  • Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes or until meringue is golden brown. Cool on a wire rack for 1 hour. Chill for at least 3 hours before serving. Refrigerate leftovers.

Tips:

  • Always use fresh cherries: Fresh cherries have a much better flavor and texture than frozen or canned cherries. If you can't find fresh cherries, you can use frozen cherries that have been thawed and drained.
  • Pit the cherries before using them: You can use a cherry pitter or a paring knife to remove the pits. Be sure to rinse the cherries well after pitting them.
  • Don't overcook the cherries: Overcooked cherries will lose their flavor and texture. Cook them just until they are softened and juicy.
  • Use a good quality meringue powder: Meringue powder is the key to making a light and fluffy meringue. Be sure to use a brand that you trust.
  • Beat the egg whites until they are stiff peaks: This will help to create a meringue that is stable and holds its shape.
  • Fold the meringue into the cherry mixture gently: This will help to prevent the meringue from deflating.
  • Bake the pie at a high temperature for a short amount of time: This will help to create a golden brown crust and a light and fluffy meringue.
  • Let the pie cool completely before serving: This will allow the meringue to set and the pie to firm up.

Conclusion:

  • Cherry meringue pie is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser.
  • With a few simple tips, you can make a cherry meringue pie that is both delicious and beautiful.
  • So next time you're looking for a special dessert, give cherry meringue pie a try. You won't be disappointed.
