Categories     Nuts

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 c bite-size saltine crackers
1 can(s) mixed nuts (11.5 oz)
3 Tbsp butter, melted
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp garlic powder

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 375 degrees.
  • 2. Combine crackers and nuts in a large bowl. Mix melted butter and seasonings together and drizzle over cracker mixture. Toss to coat.
  • 3. Spread onto the bottom of a foil-lined 15x10x1 inch pan.
  • 4. Bake 10 minutes or until lightly toasted, stirring after 5 minutes.
  • 5. Cool completely. Store in an airtight container or Ziploc bag.
  • 6. Note: for a burst of flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper to the butter and other seasonings before drizzling over the crackers.

Tips:

  • Choose the right Chex cereal: Use a neutral-flavored cereal like Chex or Corn Chex. Avoid flavored varieties, as they can overpower the other ingredients.
  • Use fresh spices: Ground spices lose their flavor over time, so use fresh spices for the best flavor. You can also use a pre-mixed chili seasoning blend if you're short on time.
  • Don't overcrowd the baking sheet: Spread the Chex mixture in a single layer on the baking sheet to ensure even cooking. If the mixture is too crowded, the Chex will not get crispy.
  • Bake the Chex mixture until it is golden brown: This will ensure that the Chex is crispy and flavorful. Keep a close eye on the mixture so that it doesn't burn.
  • Let the Chex mixture cool completely before adding the nuts and pretzels: This will help to prevent the nuts and pretzels from becoming soggy.
  • Store the Chili Snack Mix in an airtight container: This will help to keep the mixture fresh and crispy for up to two weeks.

Conclusion:

Chili Snack Mix is a delicious and easy-to-make snack that is perfect for parties, potlucks, or just munching on at home. With its combination of crunchy Chex cereal, savory chili seasoning, and salty nuts and pretzels, Chili Snack Mix is a surefire crowd-pleaser. So next time you're looking for a quick and tasty snack, give Chili Snack Mix a try. You won't be disappointed!
