There can never be too much chocolate! Combine white chocolate, milk chocolate and semisweet chocolate to make these rich bars. This recipe courtesy of Pioneer Brand, C.H.Guenther & Son, Inc. Tips To toast walnuts, place in a microwave-safe dish and microwave on High for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring every minute. After measuring the brown sugar, crumble it between your fingers for uniform texture. Be sure to pack the brown sugar firmly in the jar to prevent the baking mix from sifting down through it.

1/4 cup milk chocolate chips
1/4 cup white chocolate baking chips
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, toasted and cooled completely
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup Pioneer Original or Buttermilk Biscuit & Baking Mix
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 cup Pioneer Original or Buttermilk Biscuit & Baking Mix

Steps:

  • 1 In 1-quart wide-mouth glass jar, gently layer and pack ingredients in order listed, beginning with milk chocolate chips. If there is any space left after adding the last ingredient, add more semisweet chocolate chips to fill the jar. Place lid on top. 2 Cut an 8-inch circle of fabric to cover lid. Place fabric over lid; secure in place with ribbon or raffia. Decorate as desired. 3 Make a gift card to attach as follows: "Empty contents of jar into medium bowl. Stir in 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted; 1 large egg; and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Press into an 8x8x2-inch baking pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350°F for 18 to 22 minutes or until bars are golden brown and center is almost set. Makes 16 bars."

1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda

¾ cup dark brown sugar
½ cup white sugar
¼ cup cocoa
½ cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a 1 quart wide mouth canning jar, layer dark brown sugar, white sugar, cocoa, chopped pecans, and chocolate chips. Pack everything down firmly before you add flour mixture, it will be a snug fit.
  • Attach a tag with the following instructions: Chocolate Cookie Mix in a Jar: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) 2. Empty cookie mix into large bowl. This recipe came from a book with all sorts of mixes that you layer in a quart canning jar to give as gifts. I wanted to try this particular one so I just put everything together in a mixing bowl and didn't bother making a jar. Sometimes the goodies that are in a jar are not that great but these are delicious; they are moist and have lots of yummy flavors. At the end of the recipe in the instructions, I will list how to do the layers if you should want to give this as a gift. You will notice in the layers that there are two of flour, white sugar, and brown sugar. That is just to make it look nice but if you are going to make it without the jar, just follow the instruction that I have listed. Tie a big bow around the top and give as a gift.
