1-1/2 cups cake flour
2/3 cup baking cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
7 eggs, separated
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup canola oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
Confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Let eggs stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks, water, oil and vanilla. 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup shortening
1-3/4 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup buttermilk
1-1/2 cups black walnuts
FROSTING:
6 tablespoons butter, cubed
1/3 cup 2% milk
1/3 cup sugar
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
