Yield Makes 16 cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 tangerines
1/3 cup whole cloves
3 quarts pure unsweetened cranberry juice
2 cups sugar, or to taste
3 cups amber rum if desired

Steps:

  • Cut tangerines crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick rounds and remove seeds. Stud rind of each tangerine round with 4 or 5 cloves. In a large saucepan, simmer cranberry juice, tangerine rounds, and sugar, covered, 5 minutes. Stir in rum.
  • Serve toddies with clove-studded tangerine rounds in heatproof glasses.

Tips:

  • Use fresh cranberries: Fresh cranberries have a tart flavor that is perfect for this recipe. If you can't find fresh cranberries, you can use frozen cranberries, but be sure to thaw them completely before using.
  • Simmer the cranberries: Simmering the cranberries in water helps to extract their flavor and create a rich, red color.
  • Add sugar to taste: The amount of sugar you add will depend on your personal preference. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Use a variety of spices: The spices in this recipe add a warm, festive flavor. Feel free to adjust the amount of each spice to your liking.
  • Serve warm or cold: Cranberry toddy can be served warm or cold. If you're serving it warm, be sure to heat it gently over low heat. If you're serving it cold, chill it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

Conclusion:

Cranberry toddy is a delicious and festive drink that is perfect for the holiday season. It's easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. So next time you're looking for a warm and comforting drink, give cranberry toddy a try!
