Number Of Ingredients 8

16 ounces Mueller's Ziti
1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup onion, chopped
2 cloves minced garlic or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
6 cups meatless spaghetti sauce, divided
1 cup pasta water, reserved from cooking Ziti
2 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated and divided

Steps:

  • Slightly undercook Ziti, about 8 minutes. Drain, reserving 1 cup of the pasta cooking water, cover and set aside. Preheat oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit. In large skillet over medium heat cook beef, onion and garlic; stirring frequently 6-8 minutes or until beef is browned. Drain excess fat. Stir in 5 cups of sauce and pasta water. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Mix meat/sauce mixture with Ziti. Spoon 1/2 of Ziti mixture into 13x9 baking dish. Sprinkle with Mozzarella and 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese. Top with remaining Ziti mixture and remaining 1 cup Spaghetti sauce. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese. Bake 25-30 minutes or until heated through.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the final dish will be. Use fresh, flavorful tomatoes, high-quality cheese, and a good quality pasta.
  • Don't overcook the pasta: Cook the pasta al dente, or slightly firm to the bite. This will prevent it from becoming mushy in the oven.
  • Use a variety of cheeses: A combination of cheeses will give the baked ziti a more complex and flavorful taste. Try using a combination of mozzarella, Parmesan, ricotta, and Asiago cheese.
  • Add some vegetables: Vegetables will add flavor and color to the baked ziti. Try adding some chopped spinach, zucchini, or mushrooms.
  • Season the dish well: Don't be afraid to season the dish well with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. This will help to bring out the flavors of the other ingredients.
  • Let the dish rest before serving: Once the baked ziti is cooked, let it rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the dish to set.

Conclusion:

Baked ziti is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a great meal for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion. With a little planning and preparation, you can easily make a baked ziti that is sure to impress your family and friends.
