Vodka is flavored with coffee and vanilla, then sweetened with brown sugar. Excellent for sipping, and makes a nice gift!

4 cups brown sugar
3 ½ cups water
½ cup instant coffee granules
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (750 milliliter) bottle vodka

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, water and instant coffee. Bring to a boil, then let simmer 15 minutes. Remove from heat, and cool completely.
  • When coffee mixture is completely cool, stir in vanilla and vodka. Pour into dark colored bottles, and store in the refrigerator.

This is an easy recipe for making a coffee flavored liqueur. This can be used in any recipe that calls for coffee flavored liqueur, as a cordial alone, mixed with milk or more vodka, etc.

4 cups white sugar
4 cups water
¾ cup instant coffee granules
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
4 cups vodka

Steps:

  • In a 3 quart saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in instant coffee, and allow to cool.
  • When cool, stir in vanilla extract and vodka. Pour into clean bottles. Close bottles tightly, and store in a cool dark place.

This Kaluah-imitation makes great gifts for friends at Christmas. Just remember the 30 days it takes for the flavors to mature. This recipe from an old college buddy, who gave out beautifully ribbon-decorated bottles for birthday presents and special events.

3 3/4 cups granulated sugar
2 inches vanilla beans, chopped
2 cups water
1/4 cup instant coffee granules
1/4 cup boiling water
1 quart vodka
2 teaspoons glycerin (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix sugar, vanilla and the 2 cups water in a small saucepan.
  • Stir over moderate heat until sugar dissolves.
  • Continue cooking for 30 minutes, without stirring.
  • In a large bowl or pitcher, mix coffee with the 1/4 cup boiling water until coffee dissolves.
  • Stir in vodka and glycerin.
  • Strain vanilla syrup into vodka mixture.
  • Mix well and pour into sterilized bottles.
  • Close bottles with caps or corks.
  • Let liqueur age at least 30 days.
