KALTER HUND

This is a recipe that was in my Grandmother's personal recipe collection. It translates from German to Cold Dog. It is very delicious layered cake that is kept in the refrigerator. Try it with chocolate wafers instead of butter cookies. Make sure you have a glass of milk ready with this dessert! This recipe contains raw eggs. We recommend that pregnant women, young children, the elderly and the infirm do not consume raw eggs. For more information visit our Hints and Tips pages.

COLD DOG SALAD

Cold Dog Salad image

A cold pasta salad using everything on a hotdog but the bun! Works great on a bed of lettuce as a meal or as a side dish for a picnic.

Provided by brookearog

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 25m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 hot dogs (any variety)
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed
1/2 lb penne pasta
1/4 cup brown mustard
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup relish
1/2 teaspoon chili powder

Steps:

  • Cook pasta according to directions and set aside.
  • Cut hotdogs on the diagonal into 1/4 inch pieces and combine in a mixing bowl with the chilli powder until pieces are evenly coated.
  • In a pan on high heat, brown both/all sides of the dogs.
  • Add hotdogs to the pasta with the beans and remaining condimants and cool in refrigerator for 4 hours. Could also be served hot I suppose.
  • Try adding chopped tomatoes too. Also good to try without ketchup and adding saurkraut and extra mustard.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better your salad will taste. Opt for ripe, juicy tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, and sweet onions.
  • Don't overcook the hot dogs: Hot dogs are best when they're cooked just until they're heated through. Overcooking will make them tough and chewy.
  • Chill the salad before serving: A cold dog salad is best served cold. This will help the flavors to meld and the salad to firm up.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs: Fresh herbs, such as parsley, cilantro, or chives, add a pop of color and flavor to your salad.

Conclusion:

A cold dog salad is a delicious and refreshing dish that's perfect for a summer picnic or potluck. It's also a great way to use up leftover hot dogs. With so many different variations to choose from, there's sure to be a cold dog salad recipe that everyone will enjoy.
