This unleavened biscuit is just right for chowder... I sometimes use cream in place of milk for a richer cracker. If you do, use more than a cup..add liquid until mixture is sticky.

Time 15m

Yield 2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 3

2 to 3 cups crushed saltine crackers (crackers wrapped in a tea towel and smashed with a rolling pin
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Put the crushed crackers in a bowl, add the oil and melted butter, and toss to coat the crackers with the fat. Spread on a baking sheet and bake until crisp and lightly browned, about 10 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right flour. All-purpose flour is a good option for most crackers, but you can also use whole wheat flour, rye flour, or a combination of flours. If you want a gluten-free cracker, you can use almond flour, coconut flour, or oat flour.
  • Use cold butter. Cold butter will help to create a flaky cracker. If you use melted butter, the crackers will be more dense.
  • Chill the dough. Chilling the dough will help to make it easier to roll out and cut. It will also help to prevent the crackers from spreading too much in the oven.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut the crackers. A sharp knife will help to create clean, even cuts. If you use a dull knife, the crackers may tear.
  • Bake the crackers until they are golden brown. The crackers should be golden brown on the edges and the bottoms. If you bake them for too long, they will be dry and hard.

Conclusion:

Crackers are a versatile snack that can be enjoyed on their own or with a variety of toppings. They are also a great way to use up leftover ingredients. With a little creativity, you can create your own unique cracker recipes that are sure to please everyone.
