COMPANY MASHED POTATOES

Categories     Potato     Side     Kid-Friendly

Yield 8 people

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 c. seasoned mashed potatoes, warm
1 c. sour cream
1/3 c. green onions, chopped
4 oz. Velveeta cheese, cubed
seasoned salt

Steps:

  • Combine 1st 4 ingredients. Turn into greased caserole and sprinkle with seasoned salt. Bake 20-25 min. @ 350.

Tips:

  • Choose The Right Potatoes: Opt for starchy potatoes like Russets or Yukon Golds to achieve that fluffy and creamy texture.
  • Cook Potatoes Properly: Boil the potatoes until they are fork-tender and then drain thoroughly to prevent watery mashed potatoes.
  • Use Butter, Not Margarine: Butter is preferred over margarine for a richer flavor. Be generous with it, but avoid excessive amounts to prevent greasiness.
  • Mash Potatoes Smoothly: Use a potato ricer or a food mill for a smooth and lump-free texture.
  • Season Liberally: Don't be shy with salt and pepper. Add them in stages and taste as you go to balance the flavors.
  • Don't Overmix: Overmixing can result in gluey mashed potatoes. Mix gently just until combined.
  • Enhance Flavor with Aromatics: Infuse flavor into your mashed potatoes by roasting garlic cloves in the milk before adding it or by sautéing onions and adding them to the mix.
  • Add Dairy Wisely: Start with a small amount of milk or cream and adjust as needed to achieve your desired consistency. Too much liquid can result in runny potatoes.
  • Serve Mashed Potatoes Hot: Mashed potatoes are best enjoyed when served hot and fluffy.
  • Garnish and Enjoy!: Finish your mashed potatoes with a sprinkle of chopped fresh herbs like chives, parsley, or dill for an extra touch of flavor and color.
