Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 pkg (8 oz.) egg noodles
1/2 c butter
1/3 c flour
3/4 c milk
2 c chicken stock
salt & pepper to taste
2 can(s) mushroom stems & pieces, drained
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces, or a rotisserie chicken, skin removed and pulled
1 Tbsp olive oil
1/4 c fresh, grated parmesan cheese
2 Tbsp fresh, chopped parsley

Steps:

  • 1. Cook noodles according to package directions.
  • 2. Meanwhile, in a deep skillet, heat olive oil and saute chicken until cooked. Remove from pan, set aside. (Skip this step if using pulled rotisserie chicken)
  • 3. Return pan to stove and heat butter in pan, blend in flour with a wire whisk until smooth. Add broth and milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Add salt & pepper.
  • 4. Add mushrooms, noodles and chicken to sauce, stir until well combined and warmed through.
  • 5. Plate and top with Parmesan cheese and fresh chopped parsley.

Tips:

  • Choose the right noodles: Any type of noodle can be used for country-style noodles, but some are more common than others. Egg noodles, wide noodles, and macaroni are all popular choices.
  • Cook the noodles al dente: Al dente means "to the tooth" in Italian and refers to the ideal texture for pasta. Noodles should be cooked until they are tender but still have a slight bite to them.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Country-style noodles are a great way to use up leftover vegetables. Some common vegetables used in country-style noodles include carrots, celery, onion, and green beans.
  • Season the noodles well: Country-style noodles should be well-seasoned with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices. Common seasonings include garlic, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Use a creamy sauce: A creamy sauce is a classic addition to country-style noodles. The sauce can be made with milk, cream, or sour cream. It can also be thickened with flour or cornstarch.
  • Serve the noodles immediately: Country-style noodles are best served immediately after they are cooked. The noodles will start to absorb the sauce and become soggy if they are left to sit for too long.

Conclusion:

Country-style noodles are a delicious and versatile dish that can be made with a variety of ingredients. They are a great way to use up leftover vegetables and meat. When you are looking for a quick and easy meal, try country-style noodles.
