You will need a very LARGE bowl, with a lid if possible. You will also need 1 - 16 oz box of Cheez-it crackers and 2- 6.6 oz Pepperidge Farm Cheddar Goldfish. SPICY PARTY MIX

Spicy Party Mix image

When a recipe for a seasoned snack mix first appeared on the back of the Chex cereal box in the 1950s, people went crazy for it. Years later, a Google search for the recipe yields more than two million results for various riffs, from savory to spicy to sweet. Many call for tossing the dry ingredients with the wet, then letting the mix dry on paper towels, but baking it at a low temperature yields crisper, more flavorful results. Hot sauce gives this version a bit of a kick, but if you don't like heat, you can leave it out. View this recipe as a template to tweak as you see fit: Use crunchy, roasted edamame or green peas in place of the nuts, substitute Thai red curry paste or Sriracha for the hot sauce, or double up on whatever ingredients you like best. Keep the dry-to-wet ratios the same and you can't go wrong.

Time 1h30m

Yield About 15 cups

Number Of Ingredients 12

9 cups rice, corn or wheat Chex or Crispix cereal, or a combination
2 cups any kind of lightly salted nut
2 cups small pretzels
3 cups add-ins, such as cheese crackers, rice crackers, bagel chips, sesame sticks or a combination
1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 to 2 tablespoons hot sauce, plus more to taste
1 teaspoon garlic powder, plus more to taste
1 teaspoon onion powder, plus more to taste
1/4 teaspoon sweet or smoked paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons fine sea salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste

Steps:

  • Arrange racks in the top and bottom thirds of the oven and heat to 250 degrees. Line two sheet pans with parchment paper.
  • Combine cereal, nuts, pretzels and add-ins in a very large bowl. In a medium, microwave-safe bowl, melt butter in the microwave in 20-second increments, about 1 minute. (You can also do this in a small saucepan over low heat on the stovetop.) Add Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt and pepper. Stir until well mixed.
  • Add half of the melted butter mixture to the cereal mixture. Gently and thoroughly fold to combine. Add the rest of the melted butter mixture and stir until evenly coated. Taste and adjust seasonings.
  • Divide the mixture evenly across the prepared pans. Bake, stirring and switching racks every 15 minutes, until crisp and slightly darkened in color, about 1 hour. CRACKER PARTY MIX

CRACKER PARTY MIX image

The only ones I make now. Some of these crackers are hard to find any more so use ones that are similiar or that you like.

Categories     Other Appetizers

Number Of Ingredients 13

- ½ box of wheatables crackers
- ½ box of veg. baked crisp snacks
- ½ box of sociables
- ½ box of club snack sticks
- ½ box of cheese-its (cheddar)
- 1 ½ boxes of cheddar ritz chips
- ½ box of wheat thins
- 2 cups of premium mixed nuts
COATING
- ¾ cup of vegetable oil plus 2 tbsps.
- 1 packet of hidden valley salad dressing mix (1oz.)
- 1 heaping tbsp. of dill weed
- 2 rounded tsps. of lawry's lemon pepper

Steps:

  • In a very large plastic container with a sealable lid combine the crackers and the nuts. Seal the lid and gently roll the container until the crackers and nuts are well mixed. I actually use a big silver bowl & use both hands to keep mixing until all are mixed.
  • In 2 cup container mix the coating ingredients. Drizzle over the crackers and nuts. Seal the container and gently roll the container for 4 minutes until all the crackers and nuts are coated or just keep mixing in large bowl with hands. Let set out on counter to sorta air dry for about an hour. Place the mixture into resealable bags or containers for 24 hours. Repeat for the rest of the ingredients. I store in the fridge in sealable bag.
  • Approximate a ½ box of crackers by taking the waxed paper pouches out of the boxes so you can see how much is in each bag. DON'T FORGET TO BUY 3 BOXES OF THE CHEDDAR RITZ CHIPS TO MAKE 2 BATCHES. If you can't find the exact brand of crackers in the recipe, substitute crackers you like.
  • Place in plastic bread bags & tie with raffia for gift giving.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of crackers to create a more interesting mix. Some good choices include Chex Mix, pretzels, and goldfish.
  • Add some nuts and seeds for extra crunch and flavor. Good options include peanuts, almonds, and sunflower seeds.
  • If you like spicy snacks, add some cayenne pepper or chili powder to the mix.
  • For a sweet and salty mix, add some dried fruit or chocolate chips.
  • Be sure to taste the mix as you go and adjust the seasonings to your liking.
  • Store the party mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Cracker party mix is a delicious and easy snack that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to use up leftover crackers and other snacks, and it is also a fun and festive snack to share with friends and family. With so many different variations, there is sure to be a cracker party mix recipe that everyone will enjoy.
