Time 20m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 slices sourdough bread (or bread of your choice)
1 ounce brie cheese, room temperature
1 tablespoon baked cranberry sauce (try Baked Cranberry Sauce)
1 tablespoon butter, softened

Steps:

  • Softened butter works best on a grilled cheese. Just let it sit out and then smear it all over the bread. You only need to butter one side of each slice. This is the side that will be grilled.
  • Smear the brie and roasted cranberries onto the side of the bread that is not buttered. And sandwich it with another buttered slice(with butter on the outside). All this butter and cheese is making me hungry!
  • In my opinion, a grilled cheese sandwich is best done in a iron skillet. You don't need it to be very hot. Turn the stove to a medium-high heat, and once the skillet is warmed, add the sandwich. Let it sit for two minutes and then flip it. It should come out perfect every time!

Tips:

  • Use fresh cranberries for the best flavor. Frozen cranberries can also be used, but they should be thawed before cooking.
  • You can adjust the amount of sugar in the cranberry sauce to taste. If you like a sweeter sauce, add more sugar. If you prefer a tarter sauce, add less sugar.
  • Be careful not to overcook the cranberry sauce. Overcooked sauce will be tough and chewy. Cook the sauce just until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
  • The cranberry sauce can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 5 days. When ready to use, reheat the sauce over low heat until warmed through.
  • The grilled cheese sandwich can be made with any type of bread you like. However, a sturdy bread, such as sourdough or whole wheat, will hold up better to the melted cheese and cranberry sauce.
  • Use a good quality cheese for the grilled cheese sandwich. A sharp cheddar, Gruyère, or fontina cheese will all work well.
  • Butter the bread before grilling to help it brown and crisp up.
  • Cook the grilled cheese sandwich over medium heat so that the cheese has time to melt all the way through.
  • Serve the grilled cheese sandwich immediately with cranberry sauce for dipping.

Conclusion:

The cranberry grilled cheese sandwich is a delicious and festive sandwich that is perfect for a holiday meal or a winter lunch. The tart and tangy cranberry sauce complements the rich and creamy cheese, and the grilled bread adds a satisfying crunch. This sandwich is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
