Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 c good quality mayonnaise (I use Hellmans)
1 1/2 c sour cream
3 Tbsp honey
4 1/2 c tart apples, peeled and diced (granny smiths are the best apple for this recipe)
3 c celery, diced
1 1/2 c walnuts, chopped
3 c red seedless grapes, halved
1 c dried cranberries
1 orange, zested
1 lemon, zested
2-3 c miniature marshmallows

Steps:

  • 1. In a medium-sized bowl mix together the mayo, sour cream, and honey for the dressing. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  • 2. In a very large bowl, mix together the grapes, walnuts, celery, and cranberries.
  • 3. Mix in the peeled and diced apples, lemon zest, and orange zest.
  • 4. Mix in mini-marshmallows.
  • 5. Pour dressing mixture over apple mixture.
  • 6. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are coated. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Mix again right before serving.

Tips for Making the Best Cranberry Waldorf Salad:

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Always opt for fresh, crisp apples, celery, and grapes. Fresh cranberries are ideal, but frozen cranberries can also be used.
  • Choose the Right Nuts: Walnuts are the traditional choice for Waldorf salad, but you can also use pecans, almonds, or a mix of nuts.
  • Make Your Own Mayonnaise: Homemade mayonnaise is easy to make and tastes much better than store-bought.
  • Don't Overdress the Salad: A little mayonnaise goes a long way. Too much dressing will weigh down the salad and make it soggy.
  • Serve Immediately: Waldorf salad is best served immediately after it's made. The apples and celery will start to brown if the salad sits for too long.

Conclusion:

Cranberry Waldorf salad is a classic dish that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make, delicious, and always a crowd-pleaser. So next time you're looking for a refreshing and healthy salad, give Cranberry Waldorf a try. You won't be disappointed!
