CREAMY TAHINI SAUCE/SALAD DRESSING

Creamy Tahini Sauce/Salad Dressing image

This is a nice and rich tahini-based salad dressing that goes great with romaine and butter lettuces, and also makes a nice garnish for falafels, veggie burgers, chickpea salads, and tons of other great vegetarian and/or Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes. Serve with pita breads as a snack or appetizer. I used packaged tahini paste that I bought from a gourmet foods store that happened to be really good, but you can probably make your own too. NOTE: the lemon juice amounts shown are correct! It is 1/4 liquid cup plus an extra tablespoon. Also, you can add 1/4 tsp sugar if you find it too rough.

TASTEFUL TAHINI SALAD DRESSING

Tasteful Tahini Salad Dressing image

I hate mayo, but I love hummus and tahini. People are always asking for the recipe. The tahini gives it a Middle Eastern feel and the lemon, garlic, and ginger flavors really give it a kick! Easy to make, just needs a blender or a food processor. Experiment by adding a bit more lemon or a bit less garlic, or adding ground mint. Works well on anything, especially on simple salads.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher the ingredients, the better the dressing will taste. This is especially true for the tahini, which can become bitter if it is old.
  • Start with a good tahini: Not all tahini is created equal. Look for a brand that is made with 100% sesame seeds and has a smooth, creamy texture.
  • Flavor the dressing to your liking: The basic recipe can be customized to your liking by adding different herbs, spices, and citrus juices. Some popular additions include garlic, lemon juice, cumin, and paprika.
  • Let the dressing sit for a while: This will allow the flavors to meld together and develop. If you are short on time, you can still enjoy the dressing, but it will be even better if you let it sit for at least 30 minutes before using.
  • Use the dressing on a variety of dishes: Creamy tahini dressing is a great addition to salads, roasted vegetables, grilled meats, and falafel. It can also be used as a dip for pita bread or vegetables.
