Tips:

  • Use a sharp knife to slice the onions thinly and evenly. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from breaking apart.
  • Soak the sliced onions in cold water for at least 30 minutes. This will help to remove some of the sharpness of the onions and make them more tender.
  • Use a high-quality oil for frying. Canola oil, vegetable oil, or peanut oil are all good options.
  • Heat the oil to the correct temperature before adding the onions. The oil should be shimmering and about 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Fry the onions in batches so that they don't overcrowd the pan. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from sticking together.
  • Stir the onions occasionally while they are frying. This will help to prevent them from burning.
  • Remove the onions from the oil when they are golden brown and crispy. Drain them on paper towels to remove any excess oil.
  • Season the onions with salt and pepper to taste.
