Categories     Pineapple

Time 10m

Yield 1 cup, 5-7 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup pecan halves
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 apple, cored, diced
1 orange, peeled, chopped
1 cup fresh pineapple chunk, bite-size
1 large banana, sliced
1 cup golden raisin
1/2 lemon, zest of
1/8 cup maple syrup

Steps:

  • In a large serving bowl, add fruit in order given.
  • Sprinkle lemon zest over fruit; stir all.
  • Drizzle syrup over everything, stir again.
  • Serve!
  • How easy was THAT?.
  • VARIATIONS: Figure one fruit per serving (5 fruits = five servings), so try some others--mango or peach chunks, pitted sweet cherries, hulled strawberries, grapes, ripe raspberries or blueberries---do NOT add too many different fruits or the flavors sort of turn to an indefinable "mush"---double up instead.
  • SUBSTITUTIONS: Honey=syrup; orange zest=lemon.
  • IDEA: try it warmed up in the microwave OR serve warm over puff pancakes or waffles.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, ripe fruits: The quality of your fruit will make a big difference in the taste of your salad. Look for fruits that are brightly colored and free of blemishes.
  • Use a variety of fruits: The more variety you have, the more interesting your salad will be. A good rule of thumb is to use at least three different types of fruits.
  • Cut the fruits into bite-sized pieces: This will make them easier to eat and will help the flavors to blend together.
  • Add some crunch: This could be in the form of nuts, seeds, or even granola. A little bit of crunch will add texture and interest to your salad.
  • Dress your salad lightly: You don't want to overpower the flavors of the fruit, so use a light dressing such as a vinaigrette or a simple syrup.
  • Chill your salad before serving: This will help the flavors to meld together and will make the salad more refreshing.

Conclusion:

Crunchy fruit salads are a delicious and healthy way to enjoy fresh fruits. They are perfect for a light lunch, a snack, or a dessert.
