Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
3 tablespoons light soy sauce
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon white sugar
2 tablespoons sesame oil
2 teaspoons minced garlic

Steps:

  • Place the green beans in a large saucepan or pot with one inch of water. You may place them in a steamer insert if you have one. Bring to a boil, cover and cook for 5 minutes, they should still be firm and bright green.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and sugar; set aside.
  • Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until starting to brown. Add the green beans and stir to coat with the oil. Stir in the soy sauce mixture and simmer for a couple of minutes uncovered to reduce the sauce. Transfer the beans to a serving dish and pour the sauce over them.

Tips:

  • Prep veggies beforehand: To save time, pre-cut veggies like celery and onions the day before. This will reduce your in-the-kitchen time significantly.
  • Use fresh ingredients whenever possible: Fresh veggies will give your casserole a more vibrant flavor and color. If you use canned or frozen veggies, be sure to drain them well before adding them to the casserole.
  • Don't overcook your veggies: Overcooked veggies will lose their flavor and texture. Aim for a slight crunch when you bite into them.
  • Use a flavorful cheese: The cheese is a key ingredient in green bean casserole, so be sure to use a cheese that you love. Sharp cheddar is a classic choice, but you could also use Gruyère, Swiss, or Parmesan.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment: There are many different ways to make green bean casserole. Feel free to add other ingredients that you think would taste good, such as bacon, mushrooms, or water chestnuts.

Conclusion:

Green bean casserole is a classic holiday dish that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its creamy sauce, crispy onion topping, and tender green beans, it's a dish that everyone will love. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy side dish, give green bean casserole a try. You won't be disappointed!
