DAD'S HAMBURGER GRAVY

Dad's Hamburger Gravy image

Time 30m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 pounds lean ground beef
½ onion, finely chopped
5 cups milk
2 tablespoons chicken bouillon granules
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 teaspoon ground sage
salt and pepper to taste
½ cup all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Crumble the ground beef into a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir until evenly browned. Drain most of the grease, leaving just enough to coat the pan. Add the onions, and cook for a few more minutes.
  • Pour 4 cups of the milk into the pan, and stir to scrape up any bits of food that could burn on the bottom of the pan. Mix in the bouillon, butter, sage, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, and cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Mix the flour into the last cup of milk until smooth. Slowly pour into the skillet, stirring constantly. Simmer for a few minutes to thicken. If the gravy is too thick, thin with a little bit of milk. If it is too thin, simmer longer, or add more flour. Taste and adjust seasonings before serving.

DAD'S COLA BURGERS

Before you hand out the drinks, save a little soda to make these burgers. Cola helps soften the texture and kick up the flavor. Used in the meat mixture and brushed on during cooking, it takes this football favorite to another level. -Emily Nelson, Green Bay, Wisconsin

DAD'S HALF-HAMBURGERS

Dad's Half-Hamburgers image

A Ground beef mixture that is spread on both halves of a hamburger bun, broiled, and served open faced. Half Hamburgers come from my childrens' Dad's family. It's a mixture of all the things you'd probably put in/on a hamburger, spread on the halves of the hamburger buns. It's so easy that kids can make it, although they'll need adult help with the broiling. Men love it too, so it would be great for a poker game or Superbowl party. Get "moosh-ing" and enjoy!

1 cup Italian-flavored dry bread crumbs
8 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

Tip: A muffin tin makes a terrific condiment server. Fill each of the cups with something different...catsup, mustard, relish, hot sauce, horseradish and pickle slices are all ideal toppings for sandwiches and burgers.

Nutrition Facts : Nutritional Facts Serves

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the burger will taste. Look for fresh ground beef, ripe tomatoes, and crisp lettuce.
  • Season the meat well: Don't be afraid to use plenty of salt and pepper. You can also add other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Cook the burgers over medium heat: This will help to prevent them from drying out. If you cook them over too high heat, they will be tough and overcooked.
  • Don't overcook the burgers: The burgers should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit. If you cook them any longer, they will be dry and tough.
  • Use a good bun: The bun is an important part of the burger. Look for a bun that is soft and fluffy, but not too dense.
  • Add your favorite toppings: There are endless possibilities when it comes to toppings. Some popular choices include cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and ketchup.

Conclusion:

Making a delicious Wimpy burger is easy if you follow a few simple tips. By choosing fresh, high-quality ingredients, seasoning the meat well, cooking it over medium heat, and not overcooking it, you can create a burger that is juicy, flavorful, and sure to please everyone at your table. So next time you're in the mood for a classic burger, give the Wimpy burger a try. You won't be disappointed.
