DRUNKEN CHICKEN WINGS

This recipe was given to me by a gentleman friend that lives back East. He is always cooking up something or other, and this is one of my family's favorites.

Time 10h

Number Of Ingredients 7

3-5 lb chicken wings (i use frozen ones)
1 c gin or vodka (i use vodka. you don't need the good stuff)
1 c soy sauce, low sodium
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp garlic crushed
1 large onion chopped
pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. In a 10" x 14" baking pan, spread chicken in an even layer. combine all ingredients and spread over chicken. Cover with aluminum foil and let the chicken get drunk for at least 2 hours (all day is better) turning the chicken every so often. I have the Tupperware marinating container and put the wings (frozen) in it with the sauce and leave it on the counter. It defrosts yet stays cool and is available to flip over every 45 minutes or so.
  • 2. Cook covered at 350* for 1 hour. Uncover and cook at 325* until chicken is golden brown and cooked through, I leave it about another hour to an hour 1/4. Turn chicken half way through cooking. Meat will fall off the bone.
  • 3. There is NEVER any leftovers at my house when I cook this. I saved this to post so that I could put a picture, but by the time it hit the table everyone dug in! Sorry!

DRUNKEN WINGS

These wings are always a hit at parties! You can experiment with the recipe a little. Sometimes I add a little hot sauce or BBQ sauce to punch it up a notch. Feel free to add more whiskey if you like.

Time 1h20m

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 lb chicken wings
1 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c cider vinegar
4 Tbsp soy sauce
4 Tbsp ketchup
2 Tbsp bourbon whiskey

Steps:

  • 1. Discard the wing tips and any excess skin. Cut wings in half. Place wings in a single layer in pan. For easy clean up I line the pan with foil.
  • 2. Combine remaining ingredients together and mix. Pour over wings.
  • 3. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for approximately one hour turning wings several times. You can baste the wings for even coverage. Wings are done when sauce is thick and caramelized and wings are brown.

Tips:

  • Use a large pot: The wings will need plenty of space to cook evenly, so make sure you use a pot that is large enough to hold them all comfortably.
  • Don't overcrowd the pot: If you overcrowd the pot, the wings will not cook evenly. Cook the wings in batches if necessary.
  • Use a flavorful beer: The beer will add flavor to the wings, so choose one that you enjoy drinking. A pale ale or amber ale is a good option.
  • Season the wings well: Don't be afraid to season the wings generously with salt, pepper, and other spices. This will help to give them a delicious flavor.
  • Cook the wings until they are crispy: The wings should be cooked until they are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. This will take about 10-15 minutes.
  • Serve the wings with your favorite dipping sauce: Drunken wings are traditionally served with blue cheese dressing, but you can also serve them with ranch dressing, barbecue sauce, or any other dipping sauce that you like.

Conclusion:

Drunken wings are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. They are perfect for parties or game day gatherings. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make drunken wings that will impress your friends and family. So next time you are looking for something new to cook, give drunken wings a try. You won't be disappointed.
