I was given this recipe from my multi-faceted manager, Linda Mitchell as a quick, easy, filling & delicious dish. I don't eat Pork or Beef, however when I prepare this dish for my Grandmother (Ma), I use a ½ and ½ mixture of ground Turkey and ground Chuck as well as Onion & Garlic powder. You can't tell it has any ground Turkey in it at all! This simple recipe for meat pie turns out a hit every time!!

Time 1h10m

Yield 1 pie, 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (9 inch) pie crusts
1 lb ground beef
1 (10 ounce) can vegetable soup, undiluted (vegetable beef is good as well)
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Prepare pie crust, and line a 9" pie plate.
  • In frying pan scramble fry ground beef until browned.
  • Turn off heat, add vegetable soup, and stir to combine.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add top crust, and seal edges.
  • Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 minutes.
  • Let sit 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

Tips:

  • Generous with your herbs: The flavors in this dish come from a variety of herbs, so don't hold back. Many recipes call for chopped rosemary, thyme and sage and dried basil and oregano.
  • Bid your meat: Tenderizing your meat, whether you pound it or use a meat mallet, helps to break down the connective tissue and make it more tender. This results in a more flavorful and juicy pie.
  • Cook your filling thoroughly: Make sure to cook your meat filling until it is cooked through before adding it to the pie. You can check this by inserting a meat thermometer into the center of the filling. It should read 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
  • Don't over-crimp the pie crust: When you are crimping the edges of the pie crust, be careful not to over-crimp them. This can make the crust tough.
  • Egg wash the pie crust: Before baking the pie, brush the top of the crust with an egg wash. This will help the crust to brown and give it a nice shine.

Conclusion:

With its flaky crust, savory filling, and portable nature, meat pie is a classic dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether you're making it for a special occasion or just a weeknight dinner, there's a recipe out there to suit your needs. So next time you're looking for a delicious and satisfying meal, give meat pie a try. You won't be disappointed.
