EASY SWEET AND SOUR PORK CHOPS

Being a busy single mom, I look for recipes that are quick, simple and don't have 100 ingredients. This one fits the bill to a T. I've served it to my picky parents and sisters who loved it and my 6 year old always asks for seconds (and even thirds at times)! Original recpie called for equal parts of wet ingredients, but I found it too salty and reduce the soy sauce slightly.

A simple recipe I learned from a friend in California several years ago. Serve with rice or fried rice.

Provided by Kathie Carr

Categories     Steaks and Chops

Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 5

6 thick pork chops
1/4 c soy sauce
1/4 c chili sauce
1/4 c honey
1 Tbsp sesame seeds

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2. Mix soy, chili sauce, and honey. Place pork chops in a greased casserole. Pour sauce over all. Cover and bake for 45 minutes. Remove cover and continue baking for 15 minutes more. Serve over rice or fried rice.
  • 3. OPTIONAL: When you uncover dish you may add 1/2 cup sliced green bell pepper and 1/2 cup drained canned pineapple chunks. Continue baking as above.

Tips:

  • Choose the right pork chops: For this recipe, you'll want to use boneless, center-cut pork chops that are about 1 inch thick. This will ensure that the chops cook evenly and stay juicy.
  • Tenderize the pork chops: To make the pork chops extra tender, you can pound them with a meat mallet or use a fork to poke holes in them. This will help the marinade penetrate the meat more deeply.
  • Use a flavorful marinade: The marinade is what gives the pork chops their sweet and sour flavor. Be sure to use a marinade that contains both sweet and sour ingredients, such as pineapple juice, soy sauce, and brown sugar. You can also add other spices and herbs to the marinade, such as garlic, ginger, and chili powder.
  • Cook the pork chops over medium heat: When you cook the pork chops, be sure to use medium heat. This will help prevent the chops from burning or drying out. You'll want to cook the chops for about 8-10 minutes per side, or until they are cooked through.
  • Make the sweet and sour sauce: While the pork chops are cooking, you can make the sweet and sour sauce. To do this, simply combine pineapple juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, and cornstarch in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  • Serve the pork chops with the sweet and sour sauce: Once the pork chops are cooked through, serve them immediately with the sweet and sour sauce. You can also garnish the chops with fresh pineapple chunks, green onions, or cilantro.

Conclusion:

Sweet and sour pork chops are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. The combination of sweet and sour flavors is sure to please everyone at the table. Plus, this recipe is budget-friendly and can be easily tailored to your own taste preferences.
