We make this easy pasta salad a lot in the summer - it's delicious at room temp or cold on hot days, and there's no mayo in it, so it travels well, too. We also make this during the winter, to remember what summer tasted like. It makes a great light lunch or dinner. Adapted from a Gourmet recipe.

Time 25m

Yield 1/2 cup, 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb elbow macaroni
2 (6 ounce) cans tuna in water
2 cups frozen peas
2 celery ribs
1 small onion
2 cups mayonnaise
seasoning salt (to taste)
pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Boil pasta as directed on the package.
  • Boil peas about 5-8 mins (you can boil with pasta) run under cold water when done.
  • chop celery and onions
  • mix pasta, peas, celery and onions together
  • gently stir in mayo and season with seasoning salt to taste.
  • refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality tuna: Opt for tuna that is packed in water or olive oil and avoid tuna packed in oil, which can make the salad too oily.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: This will prevent the pasta from becoming mushy in the salad.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Add your favorite vegetables to the salad, such as diced celery, chopped red onion, sliced cucumbers, or halved cherry tomatoes.
  • Add some herbs: Fresh herbs like parsley, basil, or dill can brighten up the flavor of the salad.
  • Use a good quality mayonnaise: A good quality mayonnaise will make the salad creamier and more flavorful.
  • Season the salad to taste: Add salt and pepper to taste, and consider adding a squeeze of lemon juice or a dash of hot sauce for extra flavor.

Conclusion:

Tuna pasta salad is a quick, easy, and delicious meal that is perfect for a summer picnic or potluck. With its simple ingredients and endless variations, it is a dish that everyone can enjoy.
