SOUTHERN-STYLE EGG SALAD

Southern-Style Egg Salad image

Southern egg salad, primarily used for sandwiches. Serve on fresh bread of your choice. My wife likes to make double-decker sandwiches (utilizing whole wheat bread for the center slice) with pimento cheese on the other half. Trim the edges and cut into 2 or 3 pieces. Great for tailgating.

Tips:

  • Choose the right eggs. For the best egg salad, use large, fresh eggs that have been hard-boiled for 12-13 minutes. This will ensure that the yolks are cooked through but still tender and creamy.
  • Cool the eggs quickly. Once the eggs are cooked, immediately transfer them to an ice bath to stop the cooking process and prevent the yolks from turning green.
  • Peel the eggs carefully. Once the eggs are cool, carefully peel them under cold water. This will help to prevent the shells from sticking to the eggs.
  • Use a sharp knife to chop the eggs. This will help to create a smooth, even texture for your egg salad.
  • Don't overmix the egg salad. Overmixing can make the egg salad tough and rubbery. Gently stir the ingredients until they are just combined.
  • Season the egg salad to taste. Add salt, pepper, mayonnaise, mustard, and any other desired seasonings to taste.
  • Chill the egg salad before serving. This will help to firm up the salad and make it more flavorful.

Conclusion:

Egg salad is a classic dish that is perfect for a quick and easy lunch or dinner. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give egg salad a try!
