Time 40m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 ounce dried porcini mushrooms
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
1 cup thinly sliced fennel bulb
2 tablespoons heavy cream
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/2 pound farfalle (bow-tie pasta)
1 tablespoon finely minced fennel tops
2 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Place the mushrooms in a bowl, add the water and set aside to soak for 30 minutes. Start bringing a large pot of water to a boil for the pasta.

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all of your ingredients and tools ready. This will help you stay organized and prevent any scrambling.
  • Choose the Right Sausage: Italian sausage comes in a variety of flavors, so choose one that you enjoy. A mild sausage will work well if you don't like spicy food, while a hot sausage will add a nice kick.
  • Cook the Sausage Thoroughly: Sausage should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) to ensure that it is safe to eat.
  • Use a Good Quality Olive Oil: Olive oil is an essential ingredient in Italian cooking, so make sure you use a good quality oil. Extra virgin olive oil is the best choice, as it has a rich flavor and aroma.
  • Don't Overcook the Mushrooms: Mushrooms should be cooked until they are tender but still have a slight bite to them. Overcooked mushrooms will be tough and rubbery.
  • Season to Taste: Always taste your food before serving and adjust the seasonings as needed. This is especially important for the sauce, as you want it to be flavorful but not too salty.

Conclusion:

Farfalle with mushrooms and Italian sausage is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. The combination of flavors and textures is sure to please everyone at the table. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy pasta dish, give this recipe a try.
