Tips:

  • Choose ripe, plump figs: Look for figs that are slightly soft to the touch and have a deep purple color. Avoid figs that are too soft or mushy, as these will not hold their shape in the jam.
  • Use fresh jalapeños: Fresh jalapeños will provide the best flavor and heat to the jam. If you cannot find fresh jalapeños, you can use dried jalapeños, but be sure to soak them in water for 30 minutes before using.
  • Wear gloves when handling jalapeños: The capsaicin in jalapeños can cause skin irritation, so it is important to wear gloves when handling them. If you do get capsaicin on your skin, wash it off immediately with soap and water.
  • Use a heavy-duty pot: The jam will need to be cooked over medium heat for about 30 minutes, so it is important to use a heavy-duty pot that will not scorch the jam.
  • Stir the jam frequently: Stirring the jam frequently will help to prevent it from sticking to the pot and burning.
  • Test the jam for doneness: The jam is done when it reaches a thick, syrupy consistency and a candy thermometer reads 220 degrees Fahrenheit.

Conclusion:

Fig and jalapeño jam is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used in a variety of dishes. It can be used as a spread on sandwiches, crackers, or crostinis. It can also be used as a glaze for chicken, fish, or pork. The jam can also be added to vinaigrettes, marinades, or sauces.
