Time 5h12m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

3 lbs stew meat
1 cup onion, cut into chunks
2 cups sliced carrots
6 medium potatoes, cut in eighths
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped green pepper
2 teaspoons tapioca
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can tomato soup
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can water

Steps:

  • Mix--Cover tightly--Bake at 275* for 5 hours.
  • Don't lift lid while it's cooking.

Tips:

  • Sear the meat first: Searing the meat before braising adds flavor and color to the stew.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: The more vegetables you use, the more flavorful the stew will be. Some good options include carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, and peas.
  • Use a good quality broth: The broth is the base of the stew, so it's important to use a good quality one. Look for a broth that is low in sodium and has a rich flavor.
  • Season the stew well: Season the stew with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices to taste. Be careful not to over-season the stew, as you can always add more seasoning later if needed.
  • Cook the stew low and slow: The key to a good stew is to cook it low and slow. This allows the flavors to develop and the meat to become tender. Cook the stew for at least 4 hours, or up to 8 hours for a really flavorful stew.

Conclusion:

Five-hour stew is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own liking. With a little planning, you can have a delicious stew on the table that your whole family will love. So next time you're looking for a comforting and delicious meal, give five-hour stew a try.
