I got this years ago from the lady in our church who canned it. I've never made it but I've eaten lots of it! It's the best salsa I have ever had. Especially good with lime tortilla chips or on taco salad (recipe #102234).

JEN'S FRESH AND SPICY SALSA

Jen's Fresh and Spicy Salsa image

This is the best homemade salsa ever! I originally found this on allrecipes.com. Everyone always requests it for potlucks and parties. This can be watery so I usually chop the tomatoes first and put them in a strainer basket while I do the rest. I have a small food chopper which really cuts down the prep time on this.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, flavorful tomatoes: The quality of your tomatoes will greatly impact the taste of your salsa. Look for tomatoes that are firm, plump, and have a deep red color.
  • Use a variety of tomatoes: Don't be afraid to mix different types of tomatoes in your salsa. This will add complexity and depth of flavor. Cherry tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, and heirloom tomatoes are all great options.
  • Roast your tomatoes: Roasting your tomatoes before adding them to your salsa will intensify their flavor and give them a smoky, caramelized taste. To roast your tomatoes, simply toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper and roast them in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-30 minutes, or until they are softened and slightly charred.
  • Add fresh herbs: Fresh herbs, such as cilantro, basil, and oregano, will brighten up the flavor of your salsa. Add them just before serving to preserve their delicate flavor.
  • Use a good quality salsa base: If you're short on time, you can use a store-bought salsa base as a starting point for your homemade salsa. Just be sure to choose a base that is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.

Conclusion:

With so many different recipes to choose from, you're sure to find a salsa that you'll love. Whether you like it mild, medium, or hot, there's a salsa out there for everyone. So get creative and experiment with different ingredients and flavors. The possibilities are endless!
