Number Of Ingredients 9

4 c water
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 c quick cooking grits
2 Tbsp butter
1 1/2 c shredded cheddar cheese, divided
4 eggs, beaten
1/2 c milk

Steps:

  • 1. In a large saucepan bring the water to a boil. Add the garlic powder, salt and pepper. Gradually stir in the grits. Lower the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes.
  • 2. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the butter and 1 cup of cheese until melted.
  • 3. In a small bowl mix the eggs with the milk. Stir the mixture into the grits. Pour the grits into a greased 2-quart casserole dish.
  • 4. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

Tips:

  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor. If you don't have fresh garlic, you can use 1 teaspoon of garlic powder.
  • Shred the cheese yourself for a better texture. Pre-shredded cheese contains cellulose, which can make the grits casserole rubbery.
  • Don't overcook the grits. They should be cooked through but still have a little bite to them.
  • Bake the casserole until it is golden brown and bubbly. This usually takes about 30 minutes.
  • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. This will help it set and make it easier to slice.

Conclusion:

Garlic grits casserole is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is also a great way to use up leftover grits. With its creamy texture, cheesy flavor, and garlicky aroma, this casserole is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a comforting and satisfying meal, give garlic grits casserole a try.
